Breaking Barriers releases in India and Hope releases worldwide on itunes

Taking the onus on himself in binding the society with music, the cultural ambassador of UNESCO has for the first time come out with an album aptly named "Breaking Barriers" in India and 'Hope' worldwide, containing Christmas carols and hymns played on the sarod. "It is for the first time I have attempted such a different type of music. In every religion, people are trying to connect to god through music. This was my way of paying tribute to Jesus and play a small part in the celebration of Christmas and New Year," he says. The album contains the all time Christmas favouries including Joy to the world , The Lord is my Shepard , O come All ye faithful and Silent Night amongst others.

Musical therapy to fight AIDS

An AIDS awareness campaign 'Lend your Voice for AIDS' was launched by Act Now India (ANI), a non-profit AIDS advocacy and organisation; and Saregama India Ltd, a leading music and entertainment company; UNAIDS and Delhi Public School (DPS) Society. The campaign is focused around a lyric writing contest and targets youth, particularly 14 to 25 year old. It is perceived that through the competition it will be easy to enthuse participation from school children and youth across the four metros - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta and Chennai - and spread awareness about HIV/AIDS among this section of society that is both vulnerable and a key catalyst for the needed change.
Well-known supermodel, Padma Lakshmi along with Sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan were present at the launch.

Amjad Ali Khan received an honourary doctorate by the Jamia Milia Islamia University for his contribution in the field of music. Khan Saheb could not attend the convocation where about 3000 students from various faculties were given away degrees as his was on tour in Europe. Mrs. Subhalakshmi Khan received the Degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) on his behalf from the HonourableVice President of India, Hamid Ansari in New Delhi. October 2007

Amjad Ali Khan at Queen Elisabeth Hall for India's Sixtieth Year Concert. Early this year, Mr. Khan featured in the Southbank Centre's recently launched the Royal Festival Hall hoardings project ‘Rankin's Front Row', where his photograph is included in the frieze that will run the length of the river façade of the Royal Festival Hall.

15 August 2007 Sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan, Amaan Ali Khan and Ayaan Ali Khan perform at the Central Hall of Parliament on the commemoration of India's 60th year of Independence in New Delhi.
   
The Khans take time out in Asilah. They performed at the Asilah Cultural Festival in Morocco in early August at the Asilah Palace.

Amjad Ali Khan honoured by the Rabindra Bharti University of Kolkata with its highest honour, the Honourary D.Litt. the ceremony took place at a glittering ceremony at the residence of the university's founder, Rabindranath Tagore, on May 8. Amjad Ali Khan was travelling in the US at that point, so his wife Subhalakshmi Khan accepted the honour on his behalf. This is the fifth time that the classical musician has been bestowed with such high respect from different universities across the world.

Amjad Ali Khan has been honoured with the "Key to the City"

Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan has been honoured with the "Key to the City" award by Tulsa, a city in the Oklahoma state of the United States for his "long-standing contribution" to classical music. Khan, along with his sons Amaan and Ayaan were also conferred honorary citizenship of the city by Mayor Kathy Taylor. The citation given with the award expressed "sincere appreciation" of his contribution to the promotion of classical music and also recognised his "outstanding performance" in the city of Tulsa, "providing a totally unique experience in Indian classical music and in supporting ongoing efforts to promote cultural ties between the city of Tulsa and India."
